Need help knowing what to pack for your cruise?
A note on accuracy: Cruise line policies change. Always verify splash pad and swim diaper policies directly with your cruise line before booking, especially for ships marked Verify above. This guide reflects the best available information as of 2026.
Quick Answer
Which cruise lines allow swim diapers in water play areas?
| Cruise Line | Swim Diaper Friendly? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Royal Caribbean | Yes | Select ships with Baby Splash area |
| Disney Cruise Line | Yes | All current ships have designated splash zones |
| MSC | Verify | Some ships have toddler splash zones -- confirm before booking |
| Carnival | No | Potty trained required for all water areas |
| Norwegian | Verify | No confirmed diaper-friendly areas -- verify before booking |
| Holland America | No | No dedicated diaper splash areas |
| Celebrity | No | Potty trained required |
| Princess | Verify | No confirmed areas -- verify before booking |
What counts as swim-diaper friendly: The ship must permit swim diapers, not require potty training, and have a water play area specifically designated for diapered children. Regular pools and children's pools requiring potty training do not qualify.
Private Islands & Destinations
Can babies in swim diapers use the water at private destinations?

| Destination | Cruise Line | Swim Diapers? |
|---|---|---|
| Perfect Day at CocoCay | Royal Caribbean | Yes |
| Castaway Cay | Disney | Yes |
| Lookout Cay | Disney | Yes |
| Celebration Key | Carnival | Yes |
| Half Moon Cay | Carnival / Holland America | Beach only |
| Ocean Cay | MSC | Beach: Yes |
Worth knowing: Carnival does not allow swim diapers onboard their ships. Celebration Key is the complete opposite -- swim diapers are welcome in the family lagoon. If you are sailing Carnival with a diapered child, this destination changes everything.
The most toddler-friendly private destination in cruising. Royal Caribbean specifically allows babies and toddlers in swim diapers in all pools and in the ocean -- a major departure from the onboard rules where diapered children are limited to Baby Splash areas.
Disney allows diapered children in designated splash zones onboard and the same applies at Castaway Cay. The Spring-a-Leak splash pad is designed specifically for younger children.
Disney's newest destination and arguably the best water play area Disney has built for young children. The Rush Out Gush Out Water Play area is a dedicated family splash zone.
Swim diapers are not allowed on Carnival ships. Celebration Key is the exception -- babies in swim diapers are welcome in the Starfish Lagoon. Carnival has publicly confirmed this and provides complimentary diapers at the destination.
If you are sailing Carnival with a diapered child, Celebration Key is dramatically more accommodating than anything available onboard.
No pools, no splash pads. Diapered children can enjoy the beach with their parents but there is no dedicated water play facility. A beautiful beach day, but not a toddler water-play destination.
Eight natural beaches with open ocean and lagoon access. Swim diapers are a non-issue at a natural beach destination. North and South Beach offer shallow protected lagoon water -- ideal for small kids. No dedicated splash pad facility.
